An Innovative Solution to Prevent Spots on Wine Decanters

Wine enthusiasts know the frustration of trying to keep their decanters spotless. The design of the Spot-Not Decanter Dryer consists of two main parts: a drying cloth and a drying mitt. The drying cloth, made of highly absorbent microfiber material, is inserted into the decanter. It contains three small magnets that allow it to be manipulated and moved around inside the decanter. The drying mitt, also made of microfiber material, is used to dry the outside of the decanter and also contains magnets that attract the magnets in the drying cloth.

What sets the Spot-Not Decanter Dryer apart from other drying methods is its ability to work with any shape of decanter. The magnets in the drying mitt attract the magnets in the drying cloth, allowing for easy manipulation and movement. This ensures that even the most complex-shaped decanters can be thoroughly dried, preventing the formation of spots.

The Spot-Not Decanter Dryer was born out of a challenge to find a solution to a problem that had not been adequately addressed. Julia Weber and Jan Schmitt, the designers behind this innovative accessory, conducted extensive research to determine the optimal size and strength of the magnets used in the design. Their goal was to create magnets that were strong enough to effectively dry the decanter but small enough to fit into any shape of glass container.

The Spot-Not Decanter Dryer project began in June 2013 in Toronto and was completed in February 2014. Throughout the design process, Weber and Schmitt experimented with various approaches until they discovered the magnet-based solution. Their perseverance and dedication paid off, resulting in a highly functional and aesthetically pleasing decanter dryer.

The Spot-Not Decanter Dryer has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2014, it was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design category.
